About Author Lisa Compton…
Growing up I always wanted to be two things: a writer and a detective! Now I get to be both!
My first experience as a writer came in the fourth grade when my teacher read one of my stories to the class. I’ve been hooked ever since. Growing up with older parents, I spent a lot of time entertaining myself. I passed many days and nights devouring the adventures of Trixie Belden and Nancy Drew, before graduating to Stephen King. Maybe that’s why I love a good “who done it?” with a scare or two along the way. I have lived in San Antonio, Texas for almost thirty years and have adopted it as my own. I love the diversity of this city and its endless supply of ghosts which make it the perfect setting for the Olivia Osborne series. When I’m not writing I can be found with my family and cats – there is always room for more cats.

TheÂGood Samaritan KillerÂmight be behind bars, but things were left undone. There were losses Olivia had yet to address and chances she had yet to take. They hit too close to older missed opportunities she had never reconciled. Olivia was searching for grounding while the dark called, a drum thudding in her head, leading her where she was always supposed to go.
Latin whispers filled her head, competing with Gran’s instructions. Two sides to every story. No good without evil. No light without dark. Fear the grey.
Lost in the darkness, Olivia discovers pieces of herself. She might not know where they fit, but she collected them all. She forged ahead, unwilling to give up who and what she was – not if it meant losing what was important to her. No matter the source, Olivia embraced her power and realized for the first time that Gran was wrong. What stirred inside her wasn’t a curse, but a gift.

An excerpt fromFruit of the Poison Tree…
Olivia found a young girl bent over the dead snake. She couldn’t make out the exact words, but she recognized the language. “Stop it. You can’t bring it back.”
“Andre says he can teach me.”
Olivia shook her head. “Necromancy is forbidden. There is no coming back.”
“You can do it,” Rose said. “If it’s a familiar.”
“No.” Olivia’s voice was sharp.
Rose left the snake. “I can speak Latin too, just like you. You asked it if it was afraid. Those were the words you said before you killed it.”
“Who’s afraid nowÂis the literal translation.”
“It was afraid. I felt it.”
“It should have been. You should be too.”
Olivia didn’t have time to worry about the girl. She was thinking about the significance of the snake. Shedding its skin was an ancient symbol of transformation. Rose was correct. The snake was a familiar. Andre Roche was going to wish he had never pushed her into the dark.
