An excerpt from Skye of England…

“What think you of this dilemma, Skye?”

“Not much, Your Grace. I would prefer to go home to Welford.” She walked over to the fireplace, turning her back on the low fire in the grate, suddenly chilled and seeking warmth.

“I will not be sending you home.”

“But I don’t want to marry you, any more than you want to marry me. Why should we adhere to some agreement neither one of us wants? Something created years ago!” She took a deep breath. “I release you from this silly betrothal, Your Grace,” she announced solemnly. He pressed his lips together, suppressing his grin, but his eyes shone with amusement just the same.

“Perhaps I do not wish to be released.” After giving it careful consideration, he supposed it might not be such an awful dilemma to be in. He would have to marry one day to produce an heir. It might as well be Skye. He liked her, was definitely hot for her, and it would stop the hordes of Society ladies from hounding him. He arched a brow, waiting for her reaction with bated breath.

She was staring at him, mouth slightly ajar, speechless. A host of emotions crossed her face, her brows drawing together as she studied him, head tilted, possibly wondering if he was daft. He threw back his head and laughed. No words were needed, her expression said it all.
