N. Jade Gray grew up on a farm in Oklahoma with one sister and three brothers. She began reading romance novels in high school and was hooked. In an attempt to entertain her friends she began writing stories. The biggest hurdle she had to overcome with her writing was sharing her stories. Her former writing groups, the Wichita and Regional Authors and Low Country Romance Writers, helped with her confidence and shook the needed pom pom’s to get her motivated for publication. She is also a former member of the Romance Writers of America.

She met her husband while attending college and has two grown sons and is a proud Nana to two granddaughters with another granddaughter on the way. Not really knowing what she wanted to do when she grew up, she’s held various jobs in the accounting and legal fields.

She lives in Missouri with her husband, rescue cats Meera, Mango and Pancake, and one spoiled dog-named Fabio. Yes, she helped named the dog. She loves to hear her husband calling for his four-legged companion.

This is Author N. Jade Gray’s writing and publication journey in her own words…

I grew up on a farm near the small town of Capron, Oklahoma. We had chickens, rabbits, pigs, cattle, a milk cow and one horse. Our family grew wheat and occasionally alfalfa. I always enjoyed reading and when I got into high school I started writing stories. Truthfully, I began writing stories to amuse my friends. But I got hooked on creating characters and crafting stories.

Challenges as an Author…

I was a full time mom and employed full time outside the home. Finding the time to write was sporadic. My debut novel, All for the Love of a Cowboy, took almost twenty years to write and edit. One of the things I’ve learned in my writing career is that writing the book is only a piece of the puzzle. Another huge piece is marketing. It’s hard to explain what all goes into producing a book. It’s not just writing a story and then boom – you publish. It’s a lot of work, persistence, and a dash of stubbornness in seeing the project through.

What made you want to write in the Romance genre specifically?

The meet, story, and the ‘what if’ between a hero and heroine pulls at me. I enjoy the journey the characters go through for their own happy ending, which I’m a sucker for every time.

I am currently working on a Historical western, but life and procrastination keep getting in the way. Stay tuned…

Words of encouragement for aspiring authors…

Just keep writing. What works for one author may not work for you. Take the advice you receive and massage it, edit it and make it your own.
