Daughters of Riga by Marian Exall

This is Author Marian Exall’s writing journey in her own words…

I was born and educated in England, and lived in France and Belgium before moving to the US, raising a family and pursuing a career as a lawyer. In 2006, I moved to the Pacific Northwest, edged out of the practice of law and started writing fiction. I love where I live with my husband of 53 years and my large rescue dog, Bo.

I have always been a voracious reader of novels, and as soon as I had the time, I began writing what I loved to read.

Challenges throughout the publishing process…

The publishing business is increasingly challenging. I started out self-publishing and learned a lot the hard way. I now have a publisher but I still have to do all the promotion and marketing myself, which I find difficult. Also, I have little control over cover image, release date, etc.

Exall’s favourite quote from her book, “Daughters of Riga.”

“The image of her mother, growing ever smaller through the rear window of the car taking Dani away….”

Exall’s Published Works

My published works include:

The Sarah McKinney mystery series (A Slippery Slope; A Dangerous Descent; A Splintered Step) available on Amazon.

Daughters of Riga, available on Amazon (US and UK), Barnes & Noble, Bookshop, and your favourite independent bookstore.

My new mystery Six Degrees of Death, set in the Pacific Northwest, and inspired by the six degrees of separation theory, will be released on November 25, 2024. Available for pre-order now.

Writing advice from Marian Exall

Find friendly fellow writers and form a critique group! I couldn’t have published anything without the thoughtful chapter-by-chapter advice from my group. I also learned so much from reviewing their work.
