The Premise…

If you love sweet, warm, fuzzy, meaningful romance with a healthy dose of comedy, then Rewrites of the Heart should be your next read. The story follows JJ Spritely, a romance author, whose main characters, Alex and Blake, come to life to help her write her own love story with History professor, Kennedy King Cooper.

There is a little bit of an enemies-to-lovers element in the story, given that JJ doesn’t particularly want to have anything to do with Cooper in the beginning, due to his lack of respect for romance books. And it’s easy to get invested in the characters, Alex and Blake included, since they also have their own separate mission to find their way back to their own world.

Pace yourself…

Even with all of the conundrums, Rewrites of the Heart is definitely a slower burn novel and it’s a journey for the reader, moving with the main character and her characters. The premise is fun and, as an author, it makes you wonder what it would be like if your characters actually came to life. The thought is exciting and, honestly, a little terrifying.

The Technical Details…

It’s important to mention that we are stickler’s for dialogue here at Literal Literary, and one thing that stood out was the natural-sounding, easy-to-read dialogue. It makes the story feel more realistic but still keeps you lost in the book, in a good way.

The Conclusion…

As we all know (by general writing community consensus), a story can only be considered a romance if it has a happy-ever-after ending, and you can expect exactly that with Rewrites of the Heart…for all the characters involved. That’s not a spoiler, right? Give it a read yourself. It’s worth the journey for all of the warm and fuzzies you get with this book.
