About Author Kate Ellington…

Kate grew up in a woodsy New England town not far from the coast. She read her first historical romance at age eleven when a teacher challenged her to find a book in the library written by an author she’d never heard of. Thus began a life-long love of love stories.

Kate wrote her first romance when she was sixteen, then set her pen down for years until another story floated into her head out of the clear blue sky. She jotted it down, just for fun, but soon it took on a life of its own. When not writing, spare time is devoted to reading novels, taking a stroll or spending time with her family.

An excerpt from Romance at Ridgeford Hall…

The Ferris wheel’s seat wobbled as Jane and Conrad climbed in. She cast him a nervous glance but he just nodded reassuringly. As they sat there waiting for the ride to start the wobble became more of a gentle sway and Jane thought the ride might be enjoyable after all. She relaxed her grip on the safety bar and leaned back in her seat. But then the ride began. At the first lurch upward Jane shrieked and clutched Conrad’s jacket, burying her face in his shoulder.
Laughing softy, Conrad shifted to wrap an arm around her. Jane squeezed her eyes shut and leaned into him. As they moved closer to the top a breeze caught at Jane’s skirt and hair while the sun warmed her skin.
Conrad rubbed her arm. “Jane? Are you scared?”
The truth was yes, she was, but she didn’t want to admit it. Besides, she was quickly realizing that fear was what made the ride so thrilling.
When Jane didn’t reply right away he said, “I’ll ask the attendant to let us off early.”
“No, I want to try for a little longer.” She opened her eyes. “Oh, my!” she said, taking in the view. The green countryside stretched out before them, the river winding through it like a blue ribbon. In the far distance Jane could just make out the coast and the sparkling sea.
“You weren’t this nervous on the darling’s walk at Ridgeford,” Conrad said, grinning.
Jane turned to answer him, surprised to find his face only inches from hers. His eyes looked bluer than she’d remembered. “The house doesn’t move,” she said and he laughed.
By the second turn of the wheel Jane’s fear was all but gone. She didn’t relinquish her hold on Conrad however. He felt much more solid than their swinging seat.
