I grew up writing. English class was enjoyable, especially the creative writing aspect. Once, I wrote a story about how our family celebrated Friday nights, the Sabbath. In addition to the prayers, candlelight, and delicious food, I included our singing contest. Even though we are not a musical family, I was confident I would win if I sang a Hebrew song. The teacher gave me an A and wrote, “Thank you.” I was thrilled!

Rohner’s inspiration to start writing…

I loved reading and wanted to learn how to move people. After finishing “All Quiet on the Western Front,” I realized that a book could deeply affect a person. It was an enlightening experience for me.

Challenges as a writer…

Trying to show and not tell.

Rohner’s favourite scene from her novel, “Tzippy the thief.”

Page 124-125.

“Shari said, “I get it, Mom. But I don’t think you ever understood what it did to me. I felt I was never good enough. I walked around berating myself. I couldn’t get into the right college. I wasn’t pretty enough, and when I said the wrong things, you kicked me under the table. You still do! Remember when you kicked me at the restaurant the night before the party?”

Tzippy had to admit it.

Rohner’s works…

I have written three books, including one children’s book with illustrations. All three are available on Amazon: Tzippy the Thief, Shari’s Secret, and Willameana the Witch.

Works in the pipeline…

My next novel, 2 Poppins Lane, will be published by Bridge House Publishing in England in October 2025.

An achievement in Rohner’s writing career that she’s proud of…

I am proud to have earned my MFA in Creative Writing from Lesley University in Cambridge, MA, in 2021, at the age of 75.
