A little bit about Author James D. Webb…
This is Author James D. Webb’s writing and publication journey in his own words…
Inspiration to start writing…
I’ve been writing since I could hold a pencil. Mostly short stories until I retired and had time to devote to novels. So far, seven have been hatched. The inspired part of my writing has always been present. Always loved mysteries and suspense. That’s my genre. I’ve written both mystery and thrillers. They are what I enjoy reading, so I felt comfortable in them. I also use my reading to improve my writing and to see how others craft their work.

One of James’s favourite scenes from Free To Be Me…
Tawnya Davitakov didn’t see the kick coming. Stars exploded in her head. Trying to duck, she stumbled. Steadying her stance, she extended the knuckle of her fist and savagely punched back. Her left hand drove deep into the man’s belly.
He didn’t even flinch.
kreap! Now what?
She feigned weakness, which seemed to be close to an actual feeling. The man stepped forward and Tawnya shoved her freshly manicured nail into his eye, twisting as she did. He yelled and staggered. He slammed both hands to his face, groaning.
She stomped her heel into the inside of the man’s knee and when he bent over, she lifted her own knee into his nose, cheering her decision to wear her hiking boots. She felt cartilage crush and blood wet her brand-new jeans. Well, that’s going to be hard to clean.
She dug out the Baretta she’d not been able to get to before and smashed it into the back of his exposed head. He dropped to the pavement like the melting wicked witch in the Oz movie.
Taking a deep breath, she searched the pockets of the huge man. At least six three and probably around two hundred pounds. Of course, no ID.
On a New York City street at midnight few people cluttered the area. And it wasn’t the safest part of town either. A refreshing breeze helped evaporate the sweat Tawnya had worked up. She quickly zip tied the man and tugged him into an alley. He’d made no move while she attended to him.
Okay, is he just a creep attacking a lone woman, or is he something else? Her gut told her the latter. After all he’d spoken fluent Russian when had stopped her.
The KGB’s top assassin, Tawnya Davitakov, calmly trotted back to her apartment. Something told her, that her past had galloped into her present.
