Molly M. HammondÂis an award-winning author whose love of language and storytelling has shaped her life and career. She holds degrees in English and Communication, as well as American Sign Language Interpreting. Molly’s storytelling is informed by her deep empathy, sharp observation, and a vivid imagination that often strikes while she’s out on a run, a routine that both inspires her creativity and frustrates her with ideas that never quite leap directly onto the page.

When she’s not writing or interpreting, Molly can be found adventuring with her dog, Bungee, and her two cats, Rose and Clover, or enjoying life in the scenic St. Croix River Valley of Minnesota with her husband and two sons.ÂDaughter of StarlightÂis her debut novel and the first in a planned series.

A little bit about Author Molly M. Hammond…

I have been an avid reader and writer throughout my life. I started writing stories and poems in elementary school, and never really stopped! For my undergraduate degree, I double majored in English and Communications. Then, a few years later, I decided that fluency in one language was not enough – I went on to earn a second degree in American Sign Language Interpreting and, upon graduation, began working as an ASL Interpreter in a post-secondary setting. As both an interpreter and an author, I am always inspired by the unique ability of language and storytelling to foster connections between people and create community.

This is Author Molly M. Hammond’s writing and publication journey in her own words…

Inspiration to start writing…

As someone with an active imagination, I find inspiration everywhere! I have always loved the idea of ordinary people rising to accomplish extraordinary things, and that was the main motivation behind sitting down to write my first full-length novels. Daughter of Starlight is a fantasy novel, and what I love about that genre is the ability to create new worlds and explore commonalities in the human experience through imaginative settings. I think the fantasy genre is wonderful for its ability to inspire readers to see magic all around them. I also greatly enjoy history and writing in the historical fiction genre as well.

Daughter of Starlight Blurb

Luma was six years old when she was found wandering alone with no memory of a family or how she got the strange scars that crisscross her palms. Now, twelve years later, Luma is summoned across a magical bridge to another world: a world where the decimated population of elves suffer under the ruthless wizard army.Â

Luma’s appearance is a ray of hope for the elves, who believe she is their prophesied “Daughter of Starlight”, the only one whose powerful magic can heal their broken defenses. Luma just wants to get back home, but the wizards discover her, and soon Luma is in the fight of her life. As she flees a mighty adversary, Luma struggles with hints of a strange power from deep within, a power that she can neither control nor deny any longer.Â

Desperate for answers, Luma joins a group of elf resistance fighters on a perilous journey in search of the exiled elf mage. Along the way, Luma begins to realize there could be more truth to this prophecy than she first thought, and that just maybe, she has a family after all.

Molly’s favourite scene from Daughter of Starlight…

When the stars choose, they never choose wrong.

Their will is etched into stone and carried in the hearts of heroes long gone.

Invisible threads stretch across the bridges between worlds,

and hover at the edge of sight.

A call must be answered,

What was broken must now be undone,

And the alignment waits for no one.
