Author Gini Rifkin

Gini Rifkin writes stories of love and adventure. Her settings include the American West, Medieval England, Victorian England, and Contemporary thriller and fantasy. When not reading or writing, she has the privilege of caring for a menagerie of rescue animals including ducks, goats, donkeys, and cats. Born in Illinois, and after becoming an RN, she was struck by wanderlust and moved to Colorado where she met her husband, Gary. As they journeyed together, they spent vacations canoeing, doing Mountain Man reenacting, and traveling around this great country. Although Gary passed away, he left her with the skills to soldier on, and a little bit of him lives in every hero she creates.
She has received two Excellence in Writing awards from The Colorado Author’s League, and The Beverley Award from Romance Writers of the Rockies. When not reading or writing, she is delving into the art of spinning and weaving various types of fleeces. Her writing keeps her hungry to learn new things, (last year she got to ride a camel) and she considers family and friends her most treasured of gifts.

This is Author Gini Rifkin’s writing and publication journey in her own words…

Inspiration to start writing…

When very young, I faithfully kept a diary for over six years, and of course there was the angst-driven teenage poetry phase. Later my husband encouraged me to write, and after his passing, doing so was a comfort and a big part of my healing process. I’m a genre-hopper and love being able to bounce from Medieval England to contemporary thriller and fantasy. Doing so allows me to stretch my creativity. Never let age determine your dreams. My first story came out one month before I turned sixty, and now I have fifteen published books.
I owe a huge thank you, and true gratitude, to The Wild Rose Press and my editor Amanda Barnett. You made my dreams come true, and my books shine.

Break HeartCanyon Blurb

Unearthing artifacts in Colorado sounded like easy money to Ryker Landry. Then he met the woman who owned the land.

Una MacLaren vows no fortune hunter will desecrate the ancient relics of Break Heart Canyon—even if the man is a handsome scoundrel. Fighting to keep her goat farm afloat as local cattlemen hatch deadly schemes to make sure she fails, she has enough to worry about.

Captivated by the courageous redhead, Ryker joins forces with Una and her Deerhound, MacTavish. But what does he desire most, the woman or the artifacts?

When the mythical white cougar again prowls the rocky cliffs, the legend of Break Heart Canyon draws them into a web of danger. Now only daring and blind trust can save them.

One of Gini’s favourite scenes from Break Heart Canyon…

As he lay on the hard ground, every previously torn muscle, broken bone, knife cut, and bullet hole screamed out tonight. Previously, Ryker had considered the scars proof of his character and endurance. Badges of courage proving he could conquer the wild dangers he chose to face. Now they seemed like markers of time, with little to show for the pain but distant memories of a younger man’s folly. When the memories faded, he’d be left with nothing of

permanence on this Earth. The endless sky loomed overhead, making Ryker feel small. And with no one to talk to except his horse, he felt lonely.

Una continued to toss and turn. She knew, her donkeys (Wallace and The Countess) guarded the goats, still the yipping of the coyotes fueled her unrest. Thoughts of Mr. Landry sleeping nearby didn’t help either. His mere existence robbed her not only of her slumber, but of her good

senses. Thank goodness he wouldn’t be interrupting her life for long. She’d only known Mr. Landry a matter of minutes. He was the great unknown, unexpected and exciting—and a

mercenary—practically an outlaw. He would show even less concern for her heart then he felt for the artifacts he hunted for profit.

Fatal Recall Blurb

Hudson Kincaid prefers the wide-open spaces. But tracking down a serial killer means hanging out in Denver as he investigates neuroscientist Dr. Marilyn Monrose. So far, he can’t figure out if she’s city kitty in high heels, or a country kitten in cowgirl boots?

Marilyn’s experiments using ramped up virtual reality, captures the final moments of each murder victim’s life, a chilling discovery she’s trying to keep secret. The last thing she needs is a determined private detective barging into her lab—no matter how sexy he looks in his Stetson hat.

When word of her research is leaked to the press, Marilyn becomes the killer’s next target.

Now the woman Hudson races to save, is the one who has stolen his heart.

One of Gini’s favourite scenes from Fatal Recall…

As he studied the room, she studied him. Ruggedly handsome, his sensuous mouth softened

the strong cut of his jaw, and the beginnings of a five o’clock shadow highlighted his cheek bones. Midnight brown hair curled down over his collar, a bit too long, and a bit too intriguing.

She tried not to fidget. Why didn’t he speak? He’d said he’d come to ask her questions. “Well?” she prompted, breaking the strained silence.

He stared back and forth between her and the name scrawled on his note pad, and his reason for contemplation sank in.

Her name, Marilyn Monrose, spelled so closely to her idol’s, often inspired presuppositions as to her appearance—imaginings she couldn’t live up to. “Sorry, no blonde hair or luscious curves. I do have a PhD in biochemistry with a minor in quantum technology and neuropsychology. Oh, and I definitely agree diamonds are a girl’s best friend.”

The man cleared his throat, stifled a grin, and had the decency to restrict his concentration to her face. “I’m investigating a recent spate of murders, Miss Monrose.”

   “Dr. Monrose.”

“Okay, Dr. Monrose. I’m not here to judge the worth of your expertise. I’m making basic inquiries, following up on a hunch.”

“I’m not sure I like being considered a hunch in a murder investigation.”

“It beats being a victim.” There was an unmistakable sincerity in his voice, and he stood taller as if he’d come to personally champion the ignoble deaths of all three women.
