No Accounting for Murder by Darin and Sarah Fortner

A word from Darin Fortner…

I have been writing stories nearly my entire life, inspired by hours upon hours of childhood reading, beginning with the Hardy Boys and Tom Swift and going on to great works of science fiction, mystery, and spy fiction, among others. After we wed, my wife helped prepare my novels for self-publication. I work mostly in the mystery genre, reflecting the styles of classic works I’ve enjoyed. I have a series set in a small South Carolina town in the 1930s (working on volume 3 now), as well as a modern-day military thriller, and I am also working on a set of short stories set in England in the 1920s.

Holiday Book Spotlight: No Accounting for Murder

No Accounting for Murder blurb

For Cathedral City private eyes Mason and Amirah Gates, work normally means handling insurance fraud and cheating spouses. Certainly not a murder investigation. But when Leila Nassar’s brother is killed, she just can’t accept the police’s conclusion that it was a simple robbery. What about the threatening emails he received before he died? The police may not believe her, but she trusts Amirah, as a fellow Saudi-American, to discover the truth.

With her husband’s support and supervision, Amirah goes undercover as a temp at the Canfield Corporation, the billion-dollar firm where the victim was conducting a company audit. What she finds points to an inside culprit, a member of upper management… and leads to a near-fatal experience in broad daylight.

In the end, with their suspicions guiding them, the couple sets a trap to unmask a wily and dangerous murderer.

What can readers expect from this book?

We feel that the novel has the potential to be of interest to a wide audience, especially with the inclusion of an Arab-American protagonist, not in a stereotypical way but simply as a regular person with normal feelings.
The novel is a lighthearted mystery featuring a modern-day husband-and-wife private eye team. We follow along as they juggle one of their typical cases, an instance of insurance fraud, with an unusual one for their agency, a high-profile murder case. The book would best fit in the cozy category, and was specifically designed as a quick read, with short chapters.
