A little bit about Author Glenn A. Bruce…

I’ve been writing for over 45 years, and am currently doing final edits on my 51st novel, with over 35 published to date. I’ve always been in the arts, playing piano from age six, and with my first band at twelve. Later, I played professionally (proud union member) for seven years, mostly on the road, first in a soul/show band and later in a southern rock band. I quit to sell cars – a passing passion – then moved to Los Angeles in 1979 to work “in the business” as a studio driver. That ended when I took one of Syd Fields’ first screenwriting courses at Sherwood Oaks Experimental School. Inspired by that experience and guest speakers that included John Milius, Bob Gale, and Robert Zemeckis, I finished my first screenplay by the end of that three months, landed an agent, and never looked back. It took a while, but I had some successes in Hollywood (per my bio), and around 2010, my wife at the time suggested I try novels. The one you’re featuring, The Sexiest Woman in the World, was #50.

This is Author Glenn A. Bruce’s writing and publication journey in his own words…

Inspiration to start writing…

I have written in a variety of genres – thrillers, westerns, horror, and now “chick lit.” (I have one other in the latter area, In Other Places, with Golden Storyline in London). My western-horror hybrid, The Ghosts of West Kansas, released last week from DSP. I have several literary novels in my quiver, looking for the right publisher, and will probably explore that area more; but I keep coming back to thrillers, which I enjoy writing as much as re-reading! The latest is a twist on the Agatha Christie-style parlor solution ending.

All of my books are available on Amazon and all but the westerns and horror are available just about everywhere else online.

The Sexiest Woman in the World Blurb

Becky Darnell is the epitome of average. She’s thirty-five, twice-divorced, works as a line foreman at a Midwest farm machine manufacturer, and is happy with her lot in life. Until her friends enter her in a Sexiest Woman pageant—and she wins!

Her world is instantly turned upside down. No one expected the victory, least of all Becky. As rumors emerge that the contest was rigged, Becky decides that life as the Sexiest Woman in the World isn’t too bad. Perks abound!

She travels the globe, waited on hand and foot, while adoring fans beg for autographed lingerie. So much adulation can’t help but go to her head!

Will the formerly “regular” Midwest gal defy the odds and continue to soar, or will she crash back down to earth? Either way, once-average now super-sexy Becky Darnell will have one hell of ride before it’s over, and that’s all that matters. Or is it?

One of Glenn’s favourite scenes from The Sexiest Woman in the World…

Noting the slick, blue pool water, Becky realized her feet were sore from all the travel and cavorting. So, she took off her shoes and sat on the edge to dangle her dogs in the cool water. It felt dreamy and brought another deep sigh of relief.

“Sore feet?” a man said.

Becky hadn’t realized she’d shut her eyes to savor the sensation. They popped open. She turned, looked, and saw a good-looking tallish man about her age who didn’t have the LA look she’d seen everywhere in her night travels. He looked normal.

“Yeah,” she answered. “Long day.”

“Art,” he said.

“No,” she said, and started to say strip club, but decided on, “Seeing the sights with a new friend.”

He said, “I’m sorry. I should have clarified. My name is Art. Art Lane.”

“Oh.” Becky laughed. “Sorry back atcha. Becky Darnell from the great state of Indiana.”

“May I join you?” he asked politely.

“Your feet hurt, too?”

“No, but it looks inviting.” He took off his running shoes and socks and sat near her to dangle his bare feet in the water. “Feels nice. You’re right.”

“Mmm,” she agreed.

“Your new friend is…”

“A girl,” Becky said. “A young lady.”

“So, you’re…”

“Huh?” She looked over then got it. “Oh. No. I’m straight. She’s uh…”

Becky had a brief internal battle over how much to admit about her reason to be in LA, then thought, F*** it. She already felt like a fish out of water with no idea how she even got there in the first place.

“She’s my roommate. We’re here for a…beauty pageant kind of thing.”

“Sexiest Woman in the World?”

“You look surprised.”

“Not the answer I expected.”

“Yeah, I don’t really fit that bill.” She felt mildly repudiated.

“I didn’t mean it that way,” Art said. “I meant the posters in the lobby. They’re rather…”

“Lurid? Obscene? Pathetic?”

“Provocative.”

“Which would seem to be their intention,” Becky said. “Which underscores why I can’t figure out for the life of me what I’m doing here.”

“You don’t think you’re provocative?”

“Hardly.”

“Those are some pretty racy looking models they chose for the hype.”

Becky pictured the hot babes in scanty lingerie. “And me in my ten-year-old underwear.” Then, thinking maybe she’d said something inappropriate, Becky added, “TMI, right?”

He shrugged. “Sounds like you’re a regular human being.”

“Thank you,” Becky said honestly. “I think I am.”
