Author Cindy Causey

Cindy Causey taught herself to type in the 8th grade because she couldn’t write in her diary fast enough in longhand.  A degree and career in advertising were the result.  After 20 years as a copy chief and Internet Marketing Manager at JC Penney, Cindy retired in 2007, and began working with her husband Scott in their multi-media production company, Dallas Media Center. Cindy shuttered the company in 2021, three years after Scott passed away.

After her first book, a non-fiction work called Cherish the Gift: a Congregational Guide to Earth Stewardship, was published, Cindy began writing fiction.  She found her voice in romance, the stories of the struggles two people endure on the road to happily ever-after. Her debut novel, A Different Drum was published in 2009 by The Wild Rose Press, followed by A Hot Time in Texas that same year.

In early 2025, her latest novel, Sensible Shoes, a humorous look at a woman struggling with life after 50, was published by The Wild Rose Press.  A new romantic suspense novel entitled Saving Samantha launches in July, 2025 and is the first in the Men and Women of Valor series from The Wild Rose Press.
Cindy makes her home in Dallas, Texas.  In addition to writing, she enjoys traveling and spending time with her five grown children and four grandchildren.  She would like to see the edges of the entire world from the deck of a cruise ship.

A little bit about Author Cindy Causey…

I began journaling in 8th grade, teaching myself to type on my mother’s upright manual typewriter. And I also began reading her historical romance novels with their roguish heroes and intrepid heroines. When I realized my passion for writing, I obtained a degree in Journalism/Advertising and enjoyed a lifelong career as a copywriter/copy chief and later in a multi-media production business with my husband.  But I never stopped wanting to write romance. After my non-fiction book was published in 1996, I turned my attention to fiction.  I honed my skills and in 2009 had two books released by The Wild Rose Press. Life intervened, and I wasn’t able to go back to fiction until my husband died in 2019. I started with a blog entitled The Widow Woman, and then submitted two new manuscripts to The Wild Rose Press. They have been released this year.

This is Author Cindy Causey’s writing and publication journey in her own words…

Inspiration to start writing…

I was compelled to start writing when I journaled every single second of a Monkees Concert in 1964. In high school, I worked on the yearbook staff for two years and fell in love with creating those memories on paper. So, I chose to make writing my career.  I never really expected to write fiction, but awoke one morning with a story in my mind and raced to the computer to get it down “on paper.” That was the beginning.  I began with historical romance because I loved to read them, but was much better at writing contemporary fiction with witty banter and lots of humor.

Cindy’s works…

My non-fiction book is Cherish the Gift: A Congregational Guide to Earth Stewardship. It is out of print. The two earlier romance novels, A Hot Time in Texas and A Different Drum, are also out of print. My two current fiction titles are Sensible Shoes, a women’s fiction, and Saving Samantha, a romantic suspense. Both are available widely online, and from The Wild Rose Press and Amazon.

Saving Samantha Blurb

Fiercely independent Samantha Morgan wants nothing to do with men who lie to her to gain access to her father’s money and power. But she’s struggling to keep her distance from her roguish new co-worker, Jack Stone.
Samantha’s father hires Jack, a former Navy pilot and current operative for Bolton’s Valor Security and Investigations, to discover who’s sending threatening notes to Samantha’s boss, Joanna. Keeping his identity a secret and protecting the alluring Samantha prove to be more of a challenge than he expected.
When Joanna is murdered in Key West, Jack and Samantha are thrust into a dangerous game of cat and mouse…and an attraction neither can deny. But when Samantha discovers Jack’s lies, it could cost her life. Can she trust him to save her?

One of Cindy’s favourite scenes from Saving Samantha…

For once, Samantha was in control of her feelings
around Jack. “No, I can’t. I’ve got a lot of reading to do for a meeting tomorrow.”
“Too bad. It occurred to me we haven’t checked Joanna’s email or her calendar.”
He leaned over the table, a conspiratorial look in his eyes. “Let’s skip dinner and head back to R.L Morgan.”
An hour later, Samantha sighed and stretched like a weary cat. “There’s nothing in her email or online
calendar. Everything is perfectly ordinary.” She logged off Joanna’s computer. “We should probably get out of
here. It’s one thing to transfer files for legitimate business purposes during the work day, but another to be going through her office so late at night.”

“Jordan told us to find out whatever we could.”

Samantha argued, “I know, but the security guards aren’t aware of that particular directive.”
“Okay, okay. A few more minutes and we’ll leave. We don’t want to raise unnecessary red flags.” He
glanced around the nearly empty office. “Did she ever use a paper calendar? You know, like a planner?”
“There weren’t any personal notes in her online calendar, so maybe. I hadn’t been looking for one before. It’s so old school.”
Samantha rifled through the box of personal items she had been amassing and turned up nothing. She pulled out the backpack Joanna had in Key West.

“We’ve been through that a dozen times,” Jack said.

Under a flap on the back was another pocket Samantha hadn’t noticed before. She unzipped it and
pulled out a folded sheet of paper.
She opened it and sighed. “It’s only an agenda Bobbie must have typed the week before the trip to Key
West. The usual meetings and luncheons and stuff, but here”—she handed the paper to Jack—”Something’s
written on the bottom.”
He squinted at the scribbled note. “I can barely make it out. Joanna had terrible handwriting.”
“Let’s see. I had to read her notes all the time.” She took the paper back and did a little squinting of her own.
“It looks like ‘Tuesday—9 a.m.’ and the initials S.L.”
Before Jack could respond, footsteps came toward them. It was probably the security they had hired to keep
people from snooping. How would she explain her presence with Jack in Joanna’s office so close to ten
p.m.? No one ever worked that late.
Without a word, Jack grabbed Sam and pinned her against the wall, his body covering hers. Then he began
kissing her with such passion she could barely breathe. The typed agenda still clutched in her hand was
sandwiched safely between them.
Hank, the off-duty policeman hired for that rotation, stuck his head in and chuckled. “Working a little late,
aren’t you, Mr. Stone?”
Jack broke off the kiss to answer in a breathless, slightly frustrated voice, without turning around, “We’re
leaving. Goodnight, Hank.”
The guard walked off down the hall, still chuckling. Jack backed away from Samantha, still pressed
against the wall, struggling to catch her breath and calm her racing heart.
Her embarrassment finally overcame the heat of Jack’s kiss. “I’d rather Hank didn’t think I engage in
trysts at the office on a regular basis.”
“You said yourself we’re not supposed to be rifling through a fellow worker’s office—a dead fellow
worker’s office— so late at night.” He ran a hand through his hair, looking like he needed a little calming
down, too. “Relax. There’s no way he recognized you.
You were completely…hmm…disguised.”
Samantha had to laugh then. “Is that what you’d call it?” Jack’s ridiculous ruse may have worked, but it didn’t
help her keep her distance from him. There had been very little distance between them during the kiss.
“Bobbie will have a field day tomorrow.”
Jack shrugged. “They’ll chalk it up to my bad reputation. While yours is still pristine.” He bowed with
a flourish.
She curtsied. “Thank you for your sacrifice, kind sir. You’ll be the talk of the coffee bar in the morning.”
“Everyone will wonder who my latest conquest might be. It’ll do wonders for my reputation as a rogue.”
“You know about that, huh?”
“Of course.” Jack smiled, lifting an eyebrow. “I’ve had to work a long time to perfect it.”
